Is this a dick move?

If you are driving, and there is a small business you are planning to turn into on the right, and there is only 1 parking spot, but before you get your turn signal on, you see in the oncoming lane, a car with its left turn signal on that is clearly wanting to park in the only spot left. Does them putting their signal on before you got there make it a dick move to park there?

Specific: Is the car that turned on it's left turn signal out on the street with you? Then yes, they're in the wrong.

A month ago or so, I was going to the grocery store. Being that it was Wisconsin, every single one of the 104 Handicapped parking spots was taken... so I went to the side of the building, all full... drove back and someone was pulling out. So I stopped and put on my single (a right), I was waiting for a couple of minutes as the woman was loading her car, and another car came from the other direction, and put on their left turn signal. While waiting the person trying to make a left put their handicapped parking placard on their mirror. Luckily for me, the person leaving the spot left in a way that allowed me to pull in. So I put up my handicapped parking placard and got out of my car... to the woman starts shaking her placard at me... so I had to jump back into my car, grab mine, and shake mine back at her. She shook her head and drove off.

Like... did she think I was taking the spot just because I felt like it? And then what was the head shake after I showed her my legal pass...

No. Rules of the road result in you getting to turn into the business first, therefore the parking spot is yours.

They called dibs when their indicator went on before yours

All you can do is wait and see if they were intended on parking there or not

Was their signal on to turn into parkng lot or parking spot? If spot then dick move. If u were in the parking lot first then fair game.

We were both on the main road. The car was sitting with the signal on to turn into the parking lot, but couldn't because a couple cars in front of me were going straight. This was a very small road with no other businesses, so it was obvious he wanted into that business with that spot (business only has like 5 parking spots, and the other 4 were full).

Yeah not an asshole move at all. It would be silly to think you would have to yield to them there

I've apparently accidentally been an asshole. On two separate occasions, I've had a driver get out of their car with an attitude because they planned on backing into a parking space but I pulled in before they could. It was accidental both times. Just assumed they were driving past the spot. Also, both of these were incredibly busy lots and I think it's kind of dumb to just assume everyone is gonna know you aren't simply driving past the spot

It's just bad luck. It's happening right now as we speak at around 100 lots a second. Maybe more.

It's a dick move, but "dibs" aren't a thing in the US legal system

No, I kept driving because I didn't want to be an asshole. If I had pulled in, the car wouldn't have been able to do anything. I'm going back tomorrow instead.

Turn signals don't reserve parking spaces.

are you from nyc or something? where parking spaces are in very short supply

Surprised how close the poll is. I figured No would be winning, because it's easier to give the confrontational advice on a message board, but I'm still surprised how close it is.

I mean, they could have parked somewhere with a meter that was far away. But that was the only other option.

I feel like its even more of a dick move to just straight up not go to the small business place just because you couldn't get a parking spot

It's not really a dick move but idk. If I saw someone clearly wanting to take that spot I'd let them have it.
