it's probably hard to appreciate if you don't have the nostalgia for it, but it's still fun imo.

the ds remake is really good, though, if you don't mind the motion controls.
If you're gonna get it for the Wii, better do it fast. The VC is coming down very soon.

'Course, the rumor is they're going to make an N64 Classic...

This is a tricky one because the DS version has a lot of extra content, theres new levels and more stars to collect along with more playable characters with different abilities

But it also has absolutely irritating controls, some of the worst on any handheld that Ive ever played
If they drag you through the mud, it doesnt change whats in your blood
I was never really that big of a fan of Mario 64 to be honest. I played it and beat it when it and the n64 came out... but in the end I was just missing the 2D games.

DS games don't have motion controls though. I think you mean the Touch controls , right? ; )
The Touch isn't necessarily bad but they are pretty much needed for the Bowser fights.
yeah whatever it requires more motion than i'd like
It's cool to hate on Mario 64 now but I think it's still an awesome game and the camera isn't THAT irritating
Buy it on the Wii Virtual console.

Its wonderful

The problem with the DS version is that the d-pad is meant for 2D games since it only gives you control of 8 directions unlike a joystick which has the sensitivity needed.

Regardless at least it's aged better than Ocarina of Time, I mean its controls are why it's one of the best games to speedrun.

Its not the camera that bothers me, its just that the levels are kinda boring. Sunshine and galaxy ruined me for Mario 64

Galaxy is still the best Mario game ever, but 64 is still amazing regardless

64 is a good game but it really shows its age. The Banjo games aged a lot better imo. And the future Mario 3D platformers are all improvements over 64. But it's not unplayable or anything like that and I think it's worth at least one playthrough.

As for 64 DS, I love the extra content in it but the controls make me wanna cry. Idk if you can use the circle pad to move if you play it on a 3DS but if so, then that should help a little. But then they went ahead and added a run button of all things. Just...why?
Delicious and vicious, while maliciously nutritious.
Haven't played the DS version but it's pretty obvious they added a run button since the d-pad isn't analog. Though perhaps it would have been better off with run being the default and having a walk button instead.

Disagree but sunshine was cool. I want to like galaxy but It's a little too linear and the planet gimmick mixed with the controls involved with walking on a round planet bother me
It's a really fun game although I suppose it shows its age. Like others have noted, go with the Wii version because the DS edition changed a lot of shit and has worse controls.

That said, I like that the DS version has other characters, I just dislike that you're forced to play with them (the worst being Yoshi, who you have to use until you find Mario) instead of keeping them fully optional.
