The question implied by context, "Which came first, the chicken or the chicken egg?" boils down to a more simplistic form: Is the nature of an egg determined by its origin (i.e. the animal that laid it) or by its purpose (i.e. the animal it protects and provides nutrients to)?

what if the chicken is the egg, and the egg is the chicken

it's one and the same. without the egg there is no chicken, and without the chicken that egg has nothing to compare itself to on a timeline

there can be no first.

Basically. Or you're just interpreting "chicken egg" as an egg laid by a chicken instead of an egg that contains a chicken. Frankly that's just silly, because if you had a hypothetical machine that could make chicken eggs, it would still be considered a chicken egg.

Even with that, eggs were around before chickens.
