My dad's first week out of college, he made more in a single week on the job than either of his immigrant parents made during a single week in either of their lives. He worked hard, put in his time, and worked his way up the ladder. At his absolute peak, he was making over $300k/yr (salary + bonuses), which I doubt I'll ever touch. So, depending on how you look at it, social mobility is or isn't a thing.
He still works, of course, but he's on a prorated salary which, in this case, means he works 3 days a week for $80k/yr (not sure if that's before or after bonuses).
