Do you believe the police story that the tasers were "ineffective" on him?

20 y/o Tommy Le from Washington State was shot and killed by police earlier this month as they believed he was wielding a KNIFE or SHARP OBJECT but was actually holding a PEN!!

He was just hours away from high school graduation from Career Link, an alternative high school program at South Seattle College..

The police received multiple calls on June 13th about gunshots in the neighborhood at Burien.

Deputies who arrived discovered a homeowner who had fired a "warning shot" at a man later identified as Le who was approaching with what the homeowner believed to be a knife or sharp object..

The homeowner ran inside of his house and Le began stabbing his door with the "sharp object" yelling he was the "Creator".

Police said Tommy did not comply with orders and he did not drop the object and that tasers were not "effective" and Cesar Molina shot him 3 times!!

Spokesperson Cindi West said Molina had a 40 hour Crisis Intervention Training which had been citd as a way to better train enforcement in how to handle mental health situations without resorting to violence..he is now on administrative leave

Le's family are now grappling with questions on his death and the narrative provided by the police.

His father, Sunny said "I'm so angry. I want to know what happened to my son"

It's been revealed that Tommy only weighed 100 POUNDS as well and the description of him being an aggressive assailant don't appear to match with the person his teachers and classmates knew.

Curt Peterson his teacher said "I could tell you 100 people i would have imagined this happening to before him. If we had a discipline file on Tommy, it would be completely empty. He was the sweetest kid in the world and he didn't have an aggressive bone in his body"

Do you believe the police story that the "Tasers" didn't work on this 100lb kid?.

This seems crazy all around.

As far the tasers go, it's hard to say without any sort of context. Were they even within range for the tasers to be effective? We'll likely never know.
Hail Hydra
If the Tasers weren't effective then I'm inclined to believe they missed with one of the strands.

The guy was mentally ill (or maybe just drugged up) and posed no immediate danger to anybody. How exactly is that fair? >_> Even if tasers weren't working, there wasn't much urgency since he wasn't next to anybody he could hurt.

Well, considering what his teachers and classmates said and the fact that tasers were ineffective, I'm inclined to believe he may have been drugged up.

That attitude is the appropriate one. Why risk him potentially fatally assaulting someone?

I understand and agree....but still, why weren't the tasers effective...? That statement just leaves a lot of room for doubt....

Tasers frequently don't work, often due to not making proper contact or the perp being on drugs. Doesn't often lead to shootings, but it does happen.

My main issue with this is concerns people with metal disabilities. Someone with severe autism for example is very unlikely to follow police orders, or even know what is going on, especially due to added stress.

Same goes if the person was deaf and couldn't hear the orders.

Usually if the person doessnt have an object in their hands they're taken down. I work with mentally ill people and people high on drugs and weight doesn't mean shit when they're having an episode. I'm a big guy and me and another co worker got thrown around like we're nothing by a 120 lb drug addict who was high from K2. Generally when someone is having an episode tasers are ineffective and pepper spray too. I don't know why but drugs or mental illness gives a person exyra strength. So if anyone can Google it please educate me

No, not "this"

Failure to follow compliance should not result in people being shot automatically

You do realize how silly that is right? The taser issue needs to be looked at

I'm so sick if tired of sheep glossing over these issues. How many people complied in America recently and stil shot?

I mean it goes deeper then that.
You got some kid out of his mind approaching a strangers house and he did something to warrant a "warning shot" from the homeowner. I mean you dont just fire off "warning shots" at random people causally walking up to your door. So he had to have done something absurd to warrant that. Then even after that the guy didnt run away. Instead he proceed to stab at their door saying "I am the creator".

I know its easy to say this wasnt fair because its "just a 100lb asian kid" but try to put yourself in the shoes of someone there. You are going to absolutely freaked out by this kid. With the way he was acting no one knew what to expect. Here is this kid yelling absurdities and stabbing at a door with a pen and ignoring all requests to comply. You try to take the non-lethal route and taze him, which has no effect.

What would you have done in this situation? Take the drawn out and more safe route? Maybe one of the cops there have had a similar experience and thought like this previously and supposed he could do the same but because of his failure to take immediate action someone else got badly hurt because he didnt act sooner.

Theres lots of things we cant see and scenarios that possibly could have unfolded but we werent there and while its sad it went this way, I think the police men did was best for the safety of themselves and the homeowner.

No being shot is indeed a last resort but a justified action when necessary.

I'm sick and tired of folk pinning everything down to mental issues and believing saying that gives people a free pass. Mental issue or not the dude was in the wrong and potentially a risk to himself and others. Cops won't get on the blower and send a therapist in. They will warn you to comply with their orders or they will shoot.

As previously stated, tasers are frequently found to be ineffective because there is a wide array of variables that can cause them to not work. There's nothing to look at because anyone with basic experience in law enforcement knows tasers are simply an early line of defense.

It's just common sense. Why put innocent people at risk? I'd rather a mentally unstable person with a weapon get shot first than have them get shot after they jab a pen into someone's neck.

Not sure if you've ever left your house or anything, but reality isn't a video game. You don't just press X to block. There's no point in taking the risk if the guy won't comply with orders.

Regardless of circumstances this happens way too often. The duty of a police officer is to protect and serve the citizenry. In this country that includes the bad guys. It's a hard job. I don't fault the officers. They are under paid under trained cogs in a machine much larger than themselves.

We need national investment in retraining and changing the culture before this can even be close to fixable.
