I think most people have that "is that how I really sound?" moment when they hear their own voice played back from a recording.

Basically this. How I hear it I like but when I hear myself when recorded it's meh. I suppose the later is how others hear it too.

I once recorded myself trying to sing. I couldn't wait to hear the playback. After I played it back, the embarrassment made me want to gouge the memory out of my brain with a knife.

I hate hearing my voice recorded. It's even worse when I realize that's what everyone else hears.
