ex: "lol you're so gay bro"

Gay as a word just sounds way too soft and soothing to be an effective insult.
Is it possible to use the word "mexican" as an insult and still be ok with mexicans?
Sure, but it is still incredibly disrespectful and makes you look bad.
Really though, I havent heard anyone use "gay" as an insult since I was in high school. It is a pretty childish thing to say, and if you talk like that in the workplace, you will eventually get hit with a sexual harassment suit.
I don't have a problem with homosexuality, but I do enjoy jokes about OP preferring the company of men.

Yeah. We can all make fun of each other for anything, cheap shots are okay. You're doing it to hurt that person, not everyone that applies to. If you're using it in a general sense though, rather than directed, it's definitely hitting bigot territory though.

I use it and i'm gay >.>

It works for certain things like when i'm talking about how flamboyant someone is in a derisive manner.

As for f** that doesn't really mean gay much these days. It's sort of dissociated from homosexuality. I don't remember the last time anyone used that refer to someone gay or really to say that something is gay in a negative sense.
I love people.
I hate people.

Because using gay as an insult stems from the antiquated view that homosexuality makes someone/something inferior.
Sure. Like if I walked into a room and noticed my male friend was staring at male's ass, I might say, "That's gay, bro." I guess you could also say, "That's bi, bro," but it doesn't have the same ring to it and it's awkward because you could also say that if he was checking out a chick's ass.

Except in no context does that actually work. Well, I guess maybe if you caught them wearing a sombrero and poncho while eating a REAL taco, not like the American tacos you get at Taco Bell... but even then that's a stretch.

No, it's because 95% of the population is straight -- including the speaker -- so it's a meaningless insult. It'd be like saying "Your mom is a whore!" in a country where everybody's moms are whores.

South Park did for an episode. But probably because being part of the majority or "normal" isn't an insult.

It's like this one Arab guy I know saying "how am I supposed to insult white people? You've got all the power, nobody assumes you're terrorists... So what if you can't dance."

That's so Emma and Julia.
Who's your favorite character from "Bend It Like Beckham"? And you can't say Beckham.
