This MIT Grad is DEAD after he Broke his Neck trying to climb a DOME!!!

24 y/o Nicholas Peggi, an MIT Graduate from Massachusetts died after he tried to climb his alma's iconic DOME!!

The climbed to the roof near the dome and slipped to his death and fell head first to the ground and broke his neck!!

He was doing it as a "prank" according to his mother

He worked as a software engineer and graduated with degrees in computer science and engineering and physics as Doctor Rich Fletcher said "He was one of the greatest computer programmers i've ever worked with. He was a great mentor to all students. It's such a loss to all of us"

He was involved with MIT's D-Lab which prototypes technologies to alleviate poverty..

Rafael Reif who worked with him said he had a good sense of humour as the entire faculty his shocked about his loss

He probably wanted to do something that felt like an out-of-the-box achievement, try something different that he would look back on when he's older and say, "Yes. I did that."

It's not unusual for young people to do things that are reckless....In any case, this was really tragic.

Can someone explain to me how climbing this is a prank? I'm too dumb for this.

Guess he skipped the day they covered gravity.

I think I was #100 out of 500 some graduating seniors in high school. I was a B-C average student at best so no way would I be able to get into MIT. Even after college I doubt I can get into MIT for a Masters or Doctorate.

In any case, I do not know what this man was doing - but many people "sign in" at various hard to reach places on campus.

The R2D2 one (1999) and One Ring (2001) and Eye of Sauron (2002) were pretty sweet. If I remember correctly, I think they were around appropriate movie releases.

And here I thought MIT students had to be smart.

I'm not sure if I am smart enough because I am far too lazy to attempt to find out in the first place.
