Pets can help, especially cold, unfeeling reptiles. They're easy to feed and don't smell.
Im usually not home and if I had pets Id end up accidentally killing them or not having enough money to take care of them well.
Oh, fair, but they don't need you to be around often. Like a snake can eat once or twice a week, depending on the snek! And the feeder mice for them are super cheap.
The startup for cage + heat lamps + supplies is a lot, but maintaining a reptile is cheap long-term and wall timers can take care of turning on their lights/heat lamp.
