There are a few chronic illnesses that will cause a person to suffocate if they breath their own CO2 in (including some forms of COPD).
This applies to less than 1 percent of the population.
I, as a minor asthmatic, still find it less difficult than others in my manufacturing workplace to properly wear a mask.
