When you have a problem like 53x57 where the number in the tens place is the same and the numbers in the ones place add up to ten all you have to do is

multiple the # in the tens spot by whatever comes after it numerically
so 5 x 6 which equals 30

and then just multiply the #s in the ones place
3x7 which equals 21

and then just put those two answers together

53x57 = 3021

And that works for everything like that
28x22 = 616
99x91 = 9009
14x16 = 224

Can somebody just explain why you're able to do that? How does it actually work?
