I was curious about it, and so I read up, and it seem to be almost a pride thing. I am a little sick from a hangover so forgive my inarticulateness. Anyway, he spent most of his time hunting for apprentices and a seeming heir for what he is trying to accomplish. He did the same with the children of the hive, and various other people. Killing robin would be effectively killing his mentee, and despite his cruelty, he really values that relationship alot. He also came to respect Robin and his abilities alot, so killing him in such a way would be beneath him. Interesting character. The show had even more depth then I remembered. It also helped that Slade
joins the teen Titans in the final season, after his Resurrection.
