The biggest problem is it's kind of easy. Having a wall scan is fine but it shouldn't also reveal a big square of the surrounding map. Power-ups are auto-collected which is kind of ridiculous. Bomb jumping went from something I haven't learned to do to something I don't even need to make an effort for. The combat is fine, even good, but it's not exactly Metroid. Everything else pretty much is. Maybe it's that I've played Metroid 2 recently but not AM2R, but it's a fine game. The gating is identical to M2 aside from more blatantly pointing out where the gate is.
This is offset by the enemies doing lots of damage and bumrushing you. I think it's about as difficult as most other Metroid games.
