I think DC would be doing a lot better with their big franchises if they decided to tell the stories from the DC Graphic Novels or big events. Marvel already does this a little, using Winter Soldier, Planet Hulk, Civil War and putting their own twists on them to make them fit into their universe logically.
I think DC has so many more iconic events/graphic novels than Marvel does that could be turned into trilogies or stand-alone movies. Hell, they've got so many characters grimdark enough that the Titans movie didn't have to be so dark which makes it stand out even more as just stupid and edgy.
