The OVA is the one you want to watch. Watched em both and I honestly could have done without the TV series.
The series covers a lot more, with the OVA taking some liberties (you'll notice some changes between them both for the material they both cover) but the OVA is just way better. The TV series has some guy named Sparky and he is absolute ass. The animation also becomes absolute ass.
The OVA is pretty much this cool adaption of a Dungeons and Dragons campaign that doesn't overstay its welcome, which cannot be said of the TV series. The humor was also pretty damn bad in the series, so yeah. I recommend you just watch the OVA, but if you give the series a shot, just know that after a certain point it just drops and never recovers.
