I'm no expert on this but if you want something now, I still think Tesla Model 3/Y is the best if you are spending like 45k. If you are rich, the Porsche Taycan. I heard the new Ford Mach-E is pretty good, but good luck trying to buy one since I think the only made a few of them for this year (probably due to covid related supply issues). Some other options Chevy Bolt and Hyundai Kona EV.
In a few years, maybe they'll be more competition. I think quite a few manufacturers (like Toyota) are coming out with new EVs next year.
edit: also, go test drive a few of them yourself first.
