For a while I wondered what the hell the middle digit was and why it was never higher than 1. Then I finally encountered an explanation and I was like "uh, okay, that seems kinda pointless if it's already implied by the others".

It's an inefficient system too, because you'd have to use hexidecimal rather than just regular numbers to be able to go high enough to describe Tiamat.
