I don't know if anyone else still cares that I pledged to post my thoughts about jcgamer's top 50 horror movies as I watched the ones I hadn't seen, but I do! (Yes, it really has taken me eleven months to go for another one after Ready or Not.)
And uh, chances are none of you need me to say Carrie is great! I found what I could sum as its economy especially impressive, as it never seriously flagged in spite of its slightness - or to put it another way, Brian De Palma & co. did so much with so little. That it's my least favorite Stephen King adaptation I've seen so far really just means Misery and The Shining (+The Shawshank Redemption) make for awfully tough competition.
On a more personal note, I feel like all of those movies (dare I say even Shawshank) seek to show that humans are the scariest monsters of all, which I appreciate. I also can't help but think I would have been a high school social outcast to a similar degree but for chance and circumstance, based on what I now know about myself. That surely assisted in placing me as the viewer in Carrie's shoes, as if the movie itself didn't already do so well enough independent of such a perspective.
