It's super weird that people cite australia as a gun free utopia, they literally don't have free speech.
If I had to choose between a .0001% percent chance my kid is going to get shot by a classmate and a 100% chance of them living in tyranny I'll pick the first one every time.
Not to mention our government is considerably, by a gigantically wide margin, worse at tyranny despite the fact that we all have this huge check and balance.
Smartmuffin's mostly right, this is an ignorable issue. Kids are dying all the time because of malnutrition, making your electronics, sheets, food, clothes, basically everything you wouldn't even think of giving up (bt dubs, if americans universally decided to support fair trade practices we could end sweatshops practically overnight.) but for some reason a select group of people have decided they care about this small sliver of people who die from this incredibly unlikely way so that's a big issue.
