I've honestly never understood where people got this notion from. With the exception of "The Intimacy Acceleration", which I think is just nod to this nonsense, there's never been any romance between the two.

I actually never expected her to hook up with anyone. always assumed she would remain that dumb blonde across the hall just so the show had one seemingly normal person in the cast.
Yeah, the only time the show's felt cringey to me were a couple of the times they had penny try to be nerdy or do nerdy things.
