I still maintain not finding Italian or French history to be especially interesting on the whole but I feel like I came across as too uptight when I first said that. Might have just been sore from all I read in Compton's book. To be fair, when I got to Venice's entry I greatly enjoyed reading it and I do find it interesting how this one city became a world power for a time, and I also really liked reading about Charlemagne and his Carolingian dynasty (plus the earlier Merovingian dynasty), so it isn't a complete loss. Also like I said I got in a bit of a cranky mood last time I was in Italy so that might be clouding my judgement. Mostly just trying to think of where in Europe I'd like to visit since I already live in Ireland.
