A good example is when you travel for a good 15 minutes or more just to talk to an NPC who sends you to the other side of the map. Or you gotta get macguffins in all corners of the map.
9/10 times it's a waste of resources and padding if you don't use fast travel. Some older titles don't have it to use so the game can feel a little tedious.
If I enjoy the world then I really don't mind and that's a good sandbox game.
I dunno. Maybe I'm not creative enough to make fun or role play sometimes.
