Came in to say this. I suspect GameFAQs won't be here in 10 years, let alone 20.
Younger people tend to think that everything that's popular now (or that's at least be around for a long time) will stay around forever, but I've been on plenty of forums, boards, and chat rooms that no longer exist, even if they'd been around for years beforehand.
GameFAQs continues to slow-bleed users, technology has made the concept of a FAQ more or less obsolete, and click-ad revenue is becoming less and less effective as a means of income for Internet services. GameFAQs will eventually reach a point where it doesn't generate enough money to justify the costs, as which point C|Net/CBS will shut the whole thing down (they might try to salvage the branding by restructuring the entire site or trying to establish premium subscriptions to support things, but neither of those things would even remotely work for this site in the current environment).
Makes sense. Although I feel like I've viewed gamefaqs from more of a social media standpoint than an actual gaming website for the past 10 years. I rarely if ever use the actual FAQS. I can't really think of many other large scale social message board for gamers outside of GameFAQS though. That's always been more of an attraction to this site for me. I'm also always surprised at how whenever I show up here, there are still many people posting that I remember from over 10 to 15 years ago. Korruptor being the first to respond to this topic is the perfect example. It's just weird to me that I view this place as some unchanging part of my history.
