Foreign language was mandatory in 8th grade but students could choose from Spanish or French with parental permission needless to say my mom wouldn't let me or my brother take French (not that I wanted to anyway.)
In 7th grade instead of foreign language we spent a third of the year taking Health I, Study skulls or Health II. Health II was drug education while Health I was everything else. Study skills was job they gave to aspiring English teachers as something to do before an opening came up and it was taught in a glorified shack because the architects of the school miscounted how many rooms the building needed.
