finally someone said it. Unless its a violent crime AND they get convicted or refuse to take a deal, they rarely go to prison on the first try. Or even the second or third one. A lot of times they try to help them get jobs, while not great ones, most of these criminals dont have skills to get great money. The system isnt perfect but lets not act like the prison system deserves most of the blame either. People arent doing prison time for shoplifting a 3 dollar bag of Doritos.
