Today I went into Hot Topic for the first time just to see what it was like and...it was just a normal store. Even the name, "Hot Topic", made it make sense. They seriously just sell brand stuff like tshirts of what franchises are popular. If they have anything edgy at all it's more like "10 year old who things they're edgy" than anything.
There were kids in there for those small cute anime animal plushies and cheap middleschool jewelry. Nothing really stood out.

I am going to say this with absolute sincerity -- Spencer's is everything I thought Hot Topic was based on how people talk. It has the really edgy clothes and anime shirts. Then it took it further by providing apparel that has the word hentai on it, shot glasses with tits on them, and even a whole wall of ass plugs.
But the people in there were totally normal. Actually polite and helpful, too. I liked it unironically lol

But then I looked into Gamestop...
That's where all the weird looking people were. I was reminded of the time I was in there just trying to get an event Pokemon and a horde of bronies wearing tails came in. And I mean they were just doing their own thing, it's not like they were freaks, but... It was just a bit more of a trip than Hot Topic. Gamestop is definitely not what it was when I was a kid ;_; (something something-store is run like garbage now-something something-industry is becoming worse)

TL/DR;
Hot Topic is actually tame, Spencers is more of the edgelord store, and Gamestop is like a bus station nowadays.

So...yeah.
