The kid probably has absolutely no idea about how fortunate he is that his adventure ended the way that it did. Between the risk of, you know, being a grade-schooler driving a fucking car and the idea of him being in the "custody" of an adult who clearly isn't in their right mind, yeah, the boy could have been fucked any number of ways.
