Having played the games in the past, Im enjoying the first game now much more than I did then. I think its because its been so long since Ive played those games. I know what the quality of life improvements of Battle Network 2 are but I havent experienced them in over a decade. Losing the feel of those improvements has been to my benefit. It might for you, too, so I say go for it. Also, its not a terribly long game. Ive reached the penultimate scenario about seven hours in, and, if I remember correctly, theres no post-game story (there is some content, just no story).
Edit: You will get lost in the net. Its not bad at first, but once it opens up, youll see just how labyrinthian it is.
