I've played it for under an hour, and it seemed to be pretty fun. It's not a slog, is it? I'm kinda fearful of ftp games.

One of the best games in the genre to come out recently, particularly if you're a fan of the slower pace of older diablo games instead of diablo 3's loot frenzy.
I do like the faster pace of D3, but the customization wasn't all that great, imo
PoE is good, but that skill tree is intimidating, but thankfully there's a lot of community builds. There's only like two categories of micro transactions in the game. Cosmetics and extra storage space. You can make do without ever buying either, though extra storage is always nice. They keep on developing it and trying new things, but not everything they add in a league is kept, so it's not constantly getting bloated with tons of half done features.
The passive tree isn't that bad once you start understanding the game. There is only 1 or 2 obvious paths to use for whatever you're trying to do.
