One of my least favorite things is how they call tennis shoes/sneakers "trainers".

what the fuck

When jogging/playing tennis, how much sneaking around do you really do?

Meanwhile, you are actually training.

I always assumed they were called "sneakers" because "sneak" sounds sort of like an onomatopoeia for the sound your shoes make on a gym floor when you're playing, like, basketball. I suppose "sneakers" really isn't a much better term at all, but tbf I can't honestly recall the last time I heard someone refer to shoes as such.

Pretty sure they were called sneakers in contrast to hard sole shoes.

Should they not be called softies then?

And do Americans not say Americium and Germanium and stuff like that on the periodic table? Is Aluminum the only one without an i?
