There actually was an effort about 6-7 years ago to start a separate Star Wars wiki (still on Wikia/Fandom, though) because of the on-going problems even then. It took like a full year after the Legends announcement in 2014 for them to even vote to create canon pages, and even longer to make them the default over Legends.
The startup Wook replacement got shut down for "plagiarism" - despite there not actually being any - by Wook's community manager/Wikia worker.
