I think he's the second hardest boss in the game, behind Orphan of Kos. Both Laurence and Orphan made me say "I'm done playing aggro, I'm going to play scared and go for hit and run." I turned on all the runes that gave you +maximum blood vials (I had 27) and played it like a Dark souls boss, playing it super slow until I had a free hit and I didn't try to get greedy. Maybe try that if you've been trying to play aggro. I recorded myself beating these two bosses, and the video length was 7 minutes long for each, double the amount of time I spent on all the other bosses.
