I work in a place like this and yes absolutely some people need to lose their shit together if they're leaving the floor slippery. I bet you the reason is that they're potheads and that they forgot about it, and their co-workers can't probably stand them. Or they need better training.
The floor in the backrooms is constantly slippery and greasy because our chicken guy doesn't use the right chemicals when cleaning the floor. If anything dangerous like that spilled on the floor I would stand next to it until someone came to clean it up, and if I absolutely could not do that I would ask a customer who is probably waiting in line anyway to keep an eye on it for the next 30 seconds. You can't leave something like that out in the open when there are old people walking around.
Then again, it could have just been a dumb customer that walked up and spilled it there without anyone knowing.
