It begs the question on how China and Russia would respond to this. While I have no doubt the blue states will find allies in most of Europe and perhaps Japan or South Korea, the red states may likely end up either isolating themselves or siding with Russia and Hungary.
I didn't go into it but in a regional breakdown scenario like the one I suggested there will absolutely be foreign influence in whatever successor states result from a break up. The easiest example is Spanish Civil War but you don't need to go back that far even. Probably not foreign fighters, but I could easily see weapons, money, and training come from foreign powers. Hell that was the US and USSR's favorite thing to do in the cold war. Shotgunning money and weapons at various factions of civil wars.
The Syrian civil war could be another example to look at. A dozen or so factions, some roughly allied with each other against other specific factions.
