Columbia made this mess by calling in the police. Making it a us vs them inflamed the protest.
From what I read originally, it is private property and the college had not invited the police in to take any action until after the protestors broke into the buildings and took them over.
I'm all for the students and professors protesting but it crosses a line when you start damaging private property and directly hindering the operations of the university.
