Yes.

Susan Collins is not really very beloved here anymore. She was considered a fairly level headed moderate in the past, and she's been coasting on that and the dumbasses up north for support. I do think her time is limited, but it won't necessarily be easy.

Angus King has been a great senator at least.

Well, maybe I'm just skeptical and suspicious of deeply online people with almost no experience running for office by saying things a very small but extremely vocal slice of the electorate loves while claiming things that are factually very incorrect.

We're already at the point of his fans getting upset when he's criticized and saying you can't hold him accountable for ignorant stuff he actually says. No, it's not a bad faith reading to say his "we can't give people medicare and housing because all that money is going out to fund a genocide" is ignorant and dumb. It's criticizing what he actually said.

Well, for one thing, it's less a policy and more a bludgeon that was used for years to call anyone who proposed any other form of healthcare expansion or even alternative form of universal healthcare a soulless neoliberal who wanted people to die on the street. That and the specific policy polled like absolute dirty when people actually found out what it actually did.

Second is that in this context, saying "we don't have MFA because the money is being sent to Israel" is actually a completely insane thing to spread around and is a nativist talking point that originated on the right.

But sure, I'm sure sliding up behind some dude because he fits a very specific aesthetic of masculinity and assuming that makes him a working class champion will work out great and hasn't even backfired in the past. Like, is it too much to ask the guy get a solid vetting after he shows himself to be publicly ignorant?

No, I don't think having Switzerland's healthcare system would be the worst thing ever. It was constantly pointed out that only a small amount of countries even use single payer healthcare only to be met by shrieks of rage.

Medicare for All was just a way to attack people from their left. It had no chance of becoming policy, it wasn't even good policy. It polled like absolute trash once you actually told people what it did. And no, the issue with affording it is not foreign aid.

Painting funding a genocide as "foreign aid" is a choice.

I read what you said, I was responding to the "other form of healthcare expansion," said like it was equivalent to any form of universal healthcare. I'm open to most forms of universal healthcare, but anything that is not universal allows people to die in the street. Anything not universal as an end goal means you want people to die in the street.

This is some bad faith bullshit and you know it.

Please look up how much the US spares on money to Israel and then look up how much the US spends on Medicaid and Medicare per year. While you're at it, look up the most optimistic estimates of how much M4A would cost and then stop tap dancing around the actual substance of what he said.

I read what you said, I was responding to the "other form of healthcare expansion," said like it was equivalent to any form of universal healthcare. I'm open to most forms of universal healthcare, but anything that is not universal allows people to die in the street. Anything not universal as an end goal means you want people to die in the street.

and therein goes to my old point: M4A was less policy and more a bludgeon. It meant "the good thing" so you could just accuse anyone who had any questions about it as a soulless corporate shill who wanted people dead.

Now you have this guy who's "we can't give people healthcare because we're funding another country." Forgive me for being a little sus of these faux-macho dudes who speak in platitudes and lie freely. These are major Ironstache and Fetterman vibes now, but I'm sure this tendency to leap right aboard aesthetics will work this time
