This season is weird as an Iowa fan.

I want us to be good, but I also want Brian Ferentz to fail his easy contract goals as it's the only chance he gets fired.

Iowa could win 8-9 games and still fall short of those contract goals if their defense is as good as it was last year!

Clemsons starting off at #9 and Klubnik is still a bit of a ?.

But I like our odds if we can just get through florida state unbeaten.

Yes, the ideal is basically a repeat of last year's sicko season. Which was miserable to watch and be an Iowa fan during.

Hence my conflicted feelings. I want the team to be truly good and successful and enjoyable you watch. I also want Brian fired.

Worst case scenario is we win 7 games (including a bowl game) barely passing the 25 point average. The season is miserable and Brian Ferentz gets his automatic big raise and new 2 year contract.

Apparently they thought Rhule would just magically fix everything, but it's gonna take some time for the Cornshuckers to adjust their culture. And that's good news for us here in Wisconsin, because we don't have much to rectify since our culture issues only arose due to the COVID.

Fickell will definitely help, but I don't expect us to contend for a national title right away. He's gotta recruit more guys for his schemes first.

Watching my team and the only guys I recognize are the running backs. Amazing just how much turnover there is in college football now.

Also after most of the 1st quarter I'm not impressed yet.

Michigan's win was so easy I ended up passing out in the 3rd quarter

Honestly most of these games are boring. Why are so many Power Four teams spending the weekend whipping up cupcake batter? We weren't one of them - Buffalo isn't a powerhouse, but they aren't a cupcake, either.

Colorado/TCU took up over half of the highlight reel for a reason. I was watching that during halftime of my game and was like "Come on, aren't there any other games to recap?" Guess not.

When I saw Wisconsin play Buffalo, I thought I'd see head coach Lance Leipold on the Buffalo sidelines, but when I noticed it wasn't him, I did some research and see he's now coaching Kansas. Good to see him continue to get better and better gigs.

Leipold was the head coach of my alma mater, UW-Whitewater, where he led their football team to 6 Division 3 football championships from 2007-2014 before departing for Buffalo in 2015. In 2014, his final year, UW-Whitewater achieved a feat no other Division 1-3 school had ever achieved: NCAA championships in football, basketball, and baseball all in the same year (all division 3).

The Colorado/TCU game did take center stage this week, and for good reason. It was pure theater.

To be fair, we were supposed to get Georgia/Oklahoma, but the SEC didn't want them to play a home and home where one game was non-conference and the other game was a conference game, so that's how we ended up with Tennessee Martin and Arkansas State instead.

Well to be fair we were always playing Arkansas St, our replacement for Georgia is SMU

Yeah, I didn't know which nonconference game they were replacing.

Purdue is coming off a decent couple years but Fresno State took them down at home yesterday

We (Fresno) had some penalty issues and our special teams allowed some points and field position that kept Purdue's score high... But outside of a few big plays (that Burks TD was ridiculous) or defense was reliable and our offense was undeniable.

Our strength of schedule is pretty poor this year. The division itself is general weak outside of boise most years and Purdue was probably our strongest non conference matchup.

We could probably go undefeated and still get shaded in the rankings.

I almost mentioned Leipold having moved onto Kansas, actually, because he was in Buffalo for a few years. Leipold's a hero for a reason and Kansas did good in hiring him.

Even if it is a perennial laughingstock like Rutgers, it's only been about two months since all the clothes came off in Evanston. That's not enough time for things to heal. Pat Fitzgerald's termination has clearly derailed the program and I doubt that Northwestern can get out of the haze any time soon.

The Power Four wants to use FCS teams as a preseason game, and there's nothing stopping them from doing so.
