What is Game of the Month Club Replay?

Game of the Month Replay is a community project based upon the Game of the Month Club. Much like the GOTM Club, it's open to all B8ers where users share, discover, play and/or discuss a bonus chosen game every month. The three games featured each month are chosen by YOU the users (and Lady Luck).

The only catch is, it must be a game that the GOTM Club has already played, so it's an opportunity to replay games you may have missed out on the first time or just want to try again.

The Basics

- Each month will usually feature three games that were chosen via a random drawing from a pool of games that users nominated
- For each of the games you beat you get a cool point on our just-for-fun standings as well as a nomination for next month's randomized drawing
- In order to receive the point and nomination, you must beat said game within the calendar month
- If you beat one of the current month's games in the previous month, you can apply for a "recently beaten waiver," but you will only receive a point and no nomination should you do so
- Drawing for next month's game is usually on the 25th
- If you periodically keep us posted on your progress and/or talk about different aspects of the games, then everyone will think you are super awesome!

Nomination Rules

- You get one nomination automatically each month
- You receive additional nominations each month for beating one of the featured games
- Each game you nominate has to be one that was already nominated for the GOTM Club.
- You can nominate games that have already been selected for the Replay Topic, but not the same game twice in a row.
- Each game must be a standalone game that can be acquired and played on its own (aka cannot be DLC/expansion that requires the base game)
- Nominations only carry over if you beat a featured game after the drawing for next month's game but before the end of the month
- You have 9 supports you can use throughout the year. Your only limitations are that you can't support your own nomination, and you can only use one support per game per month

Sorry for the delay, I just wanted it up will post stats later when time permits. Also I forgot to pull a third game so I did so and it was Mario World.

With SMW now included, I might play something this month.

I will go ahead and nominate Cuphead since I recently purchased the DLC, giving me a good excuse to go through the game again.

KCF has beaten Super Mario World

It's always nice to go back to one of my favorite games. I looked up which systems I owned this for and decided it was easier just to grab a week-long trial for Nintendo Switch Online. I will also check out what games have been added to the SNES/NES/GB library since I last used the service in 2021 or early 2022.

I will use my last nomination on Tomb Raider (2013)

I kind of feel like replaying the trilogy, though I guess for this game in particular, this would be my third or fourth time going through it.

Beat SMW, using the star world. Took way too long because I stopped yesterday at Bowser's castle and today my saves got erased.

Took me about 20 minutes using the Star World.

Was going to go for all exits as well but I only got to 91. I know 3 of the ones I'm missing but not sure about the other 2.

Still a great game...but also 3 > World.

Do you know what levels they are in?

Three were in the Bowser's Castle area (one that takes you to the Fortress, then that Fortress, and one that takes you to Star Road).

The other 2 I'm not sure about. I'm guessing maybe 1 is a Ghost House exit.

I really just wanted to start and finish yesterday so it's off my plate and I can go back to Tears.

Yeah I was just curious. Same reason I took Star Road lol. Ghost houses would be my best guess.

It's weird what our memories remember about old games. I didn't need to look up anything. I'd get into a stage and was like "oh yeah, that pipe goes to the key and keyhole". Even the ghost houses I remembered most of the tricks. Granted, I don't think they get as crazy here as in 3, but still.

I find the a lot of the time it's the standard exits in the star world people are forgetting lol.

But yeah, I love both 3 and World. All time greats and always fun to return to.

Yoshi and the cape are the big new powerups. Other than that basically just 8 worlds, koopalings, etc. No clue on any secrets.

I have some familiarity with the style thanks to Mario Maker as well, but I still stink at 2D Mario lol.

Do share thoughts! I don't recall the last time I knew of someone that played SMW first time.

I will definitely do Tomb Raider. I would go through Automata for the first time, but I'm already down for potentially playing all three from the main project, so I don't think that I will have time for it.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger beaten

I loved the narrative framing here. Really top notch. The look and music of the game were pretty great too. The only thing I didn't love was the gameplay. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why so many shots that seemed perfectly lined up just didn't register. I wonder if it was a case of little twigs and leaves being bulletproof and getting in the way? The gun play was okay otherwise, just not incredible. I didn't really like the mechanics of the duels at all, they felt super arbitrary whether I'd win or lose. Probably I'd have liked the game more if I had just played on normal instead of hard, it feels like the flaws wouldn't be as apparent that way. This definitely feels like one of those 7/10 on the edge of 9/10 with more polish kind of games.

I made it.. Great Ace Attorney 2 beaten. What a ride, the entire GAA Chronicles game as a whole is 100% the best Ace Attorney game hands down. Incredible game.

Cody has beaten Super Mario World

Great game! I think I enjoyed it more than 3, but both are top notch. They really came a long way from the first game in such a short time. I loved the Sunken Ship level that was a callback to 3.

I did not end up finding a lot of the secret exits (aside from in Forest of Illusion which required them) and I didn't make it to Star World this run. There's a lot more to dive into on a replay someday.
