This about sums up how I feel about all this and how it usually goes

Calling 60 - 70k players dead is quite the stretch, most MMORPGs operate with less concurrent players than that.

I feel like it was a big missed opportunity not to have multiplayer. That killed my interest in it. Ill pick it up some day when its on sale.

well of course that the more time passes the less a game will be played especially if the game doesn't have much replay value

It's always funny how people try to say a game sucks because it's fans aren't as obsessed with it as it's haters.

What's truly sad is people are likely going to be making these same tweets a year from now, showing they still haven't moved on.

I think they were smart to focus on single player and deliver a more polished game.

Werent people concerned this developer doesnt have a lot of experience or notable games? How many games recently have has really buggy launches due to the online components?

really the main quest and relationship quests are the only thing investing time into when playing this.

other than that, it gets boring to do the same type of side-quests (kill this monster, fetch me that thing, etc.) or exploring the world while spamming revelio to see what other collectibles you can find... lol

Elden Ring is quite open and very replayable, just as replayable (albeit much longer than) as FS' previous titles in a similar vein. It also has PvP which has kept the prior Souls games alive for sizeable sums of time post-release.

Hogwarts Legacy is a good game, but does little to reinvent the wheel, falls prey to typical open world conventions / tropes and isn't particularly replayable.

Numbers are within expectations I'd say for an entirely singleplayer experience.

Game is really living in peoples heads rent free, eh?

i think the numbers are still very high for a single player game. Steam charts also doesn't tell the full story since the game is also on ps5/series x, and doesn't include people who pirated the game, people who aren't playing at the moment, etc..

also technically this game currently has multiple times more concurrent users than most other single player games had in the same time frame, or even at their peak

A lot of folks who bought it weren't necessarily gamers, they were Harry Potter fans who now could have their dream fulfilled of getting to be in a living and breathing Hogwarts. They had no interest in beating the game, rather, they just wanted to walk the halls, cast a few spells and see the sights. They were, in effect, just tourists, passing by and enjoying a vacation in Hogwarts for a little while.

For comparison, both Hogwarts and Elden Ring are mid trash
