ok, i'm just now reading a lot of these writeups and listening to the songs and i have a question about your mega man 7 wily 2 writeup: is your point "people shouldn't make such a big deal out of this song ripping off thriller" or is it "it's stupid that the balan wonderland theme gets so much crap for ripping off ghostbusters, as this happens all the time in VGM - just look at wily 2 ripping off thriller!"?

i THINK it's the latter, as wily 2 doesn't seem to be particularly disliked in spite of its possible plagiarism (it has a like-to-dislike ratio of 1K to 6 on youtube) but i'm just making sure!

It's the latter - nobody notices that VGM does this basically all the time, haha. Funnily enough, I'm far from the first person to even point out that MM7 Wily 2 is cribbing off of Thriller, it's just that nobody's really all that concerned about it.

Yeah, I've always noticed this one. Obviously, both songs aren't the same (neither are MM7 Wily 2 and Thriller), but it definitely has that one lick that sounds so identical to Flash Man, pretty much everyone who's played both games picks up on it. Given how VGM works, there's a pretty good chance that the connection isn't a coincidence, although to be fair there's not much left that's new in music.

ah, gotcha.

yeah, that does happen a lot in VGM. kinda reminds me of how movie music often rips off classical music (or even other film scores) but nobody really talks about it.
