Seems strange to me that they took a chance with those two series debuting in NA for the first time but didn't feel Mother 1+2 was worth a localization, even though both games already had their translations completed. And we all know how Mother 3 went.

Every game is different and there is all kinds of multitudes of seasons why a particular game doesnt get localized. Sometimes they make sense. Sometimes it's very dumb reasons like us not getting Final Fantasy 2 just cause it looked too similar to the first game

also keep in mind that Japanese video game devs used to see everyone outside japan as just "secondary market" and they primarly were making games for Japanese people and if they saw a market for a game they happened to make abroad they tossed us a bone but they didn't really give a shit about us. it's only recently that Japanese companies are starting to care more about how non japanese feel or want
