More than that, Digimon tried focusing on the actual plot and that's why they have multiple series that last 1-3 seasons. This is it. As soon as the powers behind Pokemon realized what they had, they went full Power Rangers with it. It worked out for them. Keep in mind, Digimon started out as boys tamagotchis and never had a core identity like Pokmon did, either.
