I can understand elementary school being valuable. But after a certain point, the stuff you learn in school qualifies you to work only blue-collar jobs, not that you'll retain most of that information anyway. It's only when you get to college that you learn stuff that helps you with white-collar jobs. High school only helps you land minimum wage jobs like retail, so it seems dumb that it should be required for everyone to attend and graduate when most people either aspire way higher or way lower. Why don't they just make school optional after middle school?

I agree, actually. Compress the resources and you get higher value. Kids should be learning economics much, much earlier.

High school is only a waste of time because of the classes they force you to take. High School should teach kids how to become adults with how to budget money, do home repairs, how to be social, how to do your taxes, cooking, etc., and let you take stuff like science, math, history as electives for people that want to do that sort of stuff

I mean, if they want to take a math class, then that should be their own choice. What's wrong with learning more complex math as something you can select to learn? In high school we had take 3 years of math, all complex shit most people will never use again. That shouldn't be mandatory, that should be an elective

But parents are not required to do that, the school should so we know they're at least trying to learn it. Don't make the lower income student that comes from a poor or broken family have to learn about the history of Rome, make them learn how to interview for a job.

We need to teach kids better life skills and not so much book skills

Isn't compulsory education unconstitutional? Doesn't it violate the 13th amendment? We are suppose to be a free country, but out freedoms are taken away when we turn 5 and we spend 12 years in this prison-lite system they call public schools learning nothing really. Nothing that prepares you for the real world at least.

Isn't High school optional in Japan?

I disagree TC, but I think high school should have more classes that teach you about finance and other life skills on top of other classes. It doesn't do a good job other wise >_>
