Does it pay the bills? Are you doing anything wrong? Are you able to live life with that income? Then yes its a job...i never understood why people feel the need to label things "REAL JOBS" aside from superiority complexes and jealousy...

hmmm well not necessarily technically true by the government's standards. It's possible to make money and still be a hobby.

For many Youtubers, however, it is a job. Those who disagree are likely bitter about their own disappointing life.

I voted no out of jealousy. I think if I did ended up being rich and famous and very well known on YouTube I would have voted yes.

these scammers are already getting money from viewers viewing their damn video

then they get rich with patreon getting double the money from the same viewers

then they post a vacation video, someone says patreon money well spent and the patreon donator argues its a big deal that this person even graced us with video of this vacation

i mean how much mentally challenged can one get?

If I could convince a thousand people to give me $1-5 a month for my garbage videos, I wouldn't complain about it.

I'd definitely keep working though, if only to keep myself sane and getting out of the house.

Yes, of course. It's not like YouYube is a sinking ship and Google would rather make it into a cable network while pushing out all of the content creators with arbitrary secret rules that punish you for not breaking any actual terms of service or violating any known content rules. We're clearly just resistant to new ideas!

Yes and no.

You can make a living out of it, like any full time job, which I think is great.

But it's also extremely risky. Youtube is not your employer, you're not an employee. You don't have a contract that states how many hours you get to work, or your hourly wages.

Youtube doesn't give job or income stability. Best way to go about it, is do Youtube fulltime if you can make a living out of it, but do have a backup plan.

This is a very important thing to consider. My experience with making videos is that it takes a LOT of time to make something that's worth even half a damn. However, not everyone -needs- to make good quality videos if their audience doesn't care/if making lesser stuff works. If it takes you 20 hours from start to finish to make 1 quality video (writing/recording/editing takes more time than most people know) but someone else can put in far less effort and record 30 minutes of unedited video for the same or more views/time watched, it's sort of heartbreaking.

Mostly, people tend to start off on the "hard work" side of the spectrum and slowly slip off to the "laziness" side once their audience either stops noticing, caring, or the initial audience disappears entirely and the new viewers don't care.

Yeah, never put all your eggs in one basket.

I don't know how true this is of all Youtubes, but I mostly watch the Yogscast. All of them can claim on their resume that they have years of experience as a video and sound editor. Hell, you could even claim some marketing experience if you wanted to bullshit a bit. And then there's the owning a "small business" thing.
