Legless pilots can handle more Gs than their legged bretherin. When gravity forces blood from the brain to lower extremities, it causes the pilot to black out. But if you have no legs to force blood to, more blood can stay in the brain, and it's easier for the heart to pump blood back to the brain.

Their legs were probably voluntarily amputated as these are all trained pilots. Their futuristic society allows for prosthetics that allows them to walk and run normally so there's no loss in performing these amputations.

This actually makes sense, how else can Starfox do all those barrel rolls?

I'm right-handed and I've been using this mouse for the last 6 years or so. Really basic 5-button mouse, but as you can see, it's completely ambidextrous. I love how it has one side button on each side, so you have a button for thumb and button for pinky, as opposed to 2 buttons for thumb like most mice.

Great warranty system, too. About 3 years ago the mouse was malfunctioning so I sent it into logitech and then sent me a brand new one for free.

Hmm, interesting... Might take a look at it.

It's worth pointing out that playing these games at night, with head phones, ups the scare factor significantly.

I completely agree, the problem is though that I always play games at evening/night and never during day since I'm doing other stuff then. So in some way playing a game at night doesn't increase the scariness for me anymore, but it surely doesn't prevent the scariness like during day.

Maybe I worded it wrong. If you hide in a shadow without light without the monster seeing you will make the monster pass you. Sure, being in the shadow drains your sanity, but if done right it does work.

And with going to another room I mean passing an area load point so that you get a loading screen. The monsters don't follow you through those area's.

And I doubt the "losing sanity kills you" talk, I hear a few people talking about it, and I never had that happen, I frequently got to the point that my sanity was as good as empty, so I was all dizzy and was difficult to walk through the game, but I still lived.

I don't really understand your concept of fear then. It would be better if you could give us an example of a game that did frighten you. I mean,

.....

But that's more technical fear. If you're not scared by Amnesia's atmosphere, I don't think there is much hope in the horror genre for you.

I've only played RE4, maybe there's a problem with that? Other than that RE just seems to be a action-adventure game which isn't that horrifying to me.

Anyway, I can't really give a game as example since the only game that actually "scared" me was Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare when I was a kid. And with "scared" I mean that I was feared for whatever was going to happen next, that something could jump at me at any moment.
The great thing with the game was that it wasn't filled with monsters, and thus that you were cautious at every moment for the monster, till it actually happens with does scare me somehow.
Then again, I was a kid back then and never got far, so I could've missed a lot or just have the boring experience like now.

Yes, there are worse enemies when you go through the game, the problem is that that's the main thing I expect: the enemies get worse in some way through the game, no exception. So I'm not surprised when I encounter a worse enemy unless it's so much worse that you aren't prepared for that level yet. Then it is frightening.

Ammo never has been a problem for me in horror-like games. I'm not the kind of person who just shoots, and thus often has some bullets. Yes, I'm looking for ammo, but since I already have ammo I look for them prepared for whatever is going to jump at me.

Atmosphere is indeed not enough for me, you need a lot more to scare me. I admit it is a factor though, if it doesn't have a scary atmosphere then you can't get scared easily.

Setting some kind of goal is actually a great idea.... Hardest difficulty, no deaths, limited weapons. Now that might get me afraid quicker.....

But really, is Amnesia supposed to be that scary? I must admit Amnesia had the right atmosphere, the problem was that you easily know what to do.... most of the game was just avoiding monsters, which is easily done by moving to the next room or hiding in a shadow. And that just destroys a lot "scariness".

Blulum posted...
Play something with some absurd difficulty, only time video games actually scare me is if I'm nearly done with something stupidly difficult. As far as "omg something jumped out im gonna die!" I can't think of any game that I've gotten that into, for horror games I just like stuff with creepy atmosphere like Silent Hill.

That is a great idea, I always play on normal difficulty (or a similar one), which is not exactly easy, but not hard either. Perhaps I should try a higher difficulty and try to not die, that would change my mood.

So I actually feel to play a good scary/horror game, the problem is that there never seems to be a game that's actually "scary" for me.

For example Amnesia: The Dark Descent, it was a good game with a "scary" atmosphere, but it wasn't really scary for me. The only time I got actually scared was when I opened a drawer and skulls were rolling out, which was the last thing I was expecting.

And that's where I think that the problem is: everything is expected. It's like it's written big on the game "Oh hey this is a horror game where zombies are after you and you can't fight them". I just know they're there, I know they're coming, and when I encounter them, I'm just like "Oh **** run" in a way that I have to survive, not in the way that I got scared of it and run out of fear.
Taking Amnesia as example again, I know those zombie's (or whatever they are) are there, so after a while I was just like "Ohai there" and just went through a door or jumped in a shadow.

So yeah, any good "scary" horror games or anything where you aren't expecting the right things and scare the crap out of you a lot somehow?
