So I've been doing some soul-searching and I've realised a few things. I'm typing them out mainly for my benefit, kinda sorting out my thoughts so feel free to skip this post

I don't really have a problem with talking to people "normally". I'm no perfect conversationalist but I can make small talk as well as talk about more meaningful things.

The problem is flirting, or talking in a flirtatious manner. Online, it's not a problem. But face-to-face, I get so self-conscious about the prospect of it that I end up not really doing it. Or if I do, it comes across badly due to said self-consciousness.

Next question: why? My thoughts are like this: if I'm getting self-conscious, it must be because I have a negative association with flirting. Because I associate negative outcomes with flirting. Add that to the fact that I at times genuinely don't believe I'm remotely good looking and you have your answer: I don't like flirting because at some level, I'm sure it's gonna go badly. That the person probably wouldn't be interested in me anyway. That I'm just unnecessarily setting myself up for guaranteed disappointment.

Now, that's obviously a bad attitude to have. The question is: how do I change it? That's what I need to work on next...
