If a show starts off very simple and stays there for a while before getting complex, I'm generally 100% on board (like One Piece, which introduces very little that's not immediately relevant, but many say has a slow build.) It feels like there's going to be payoff for the slow worldbuilding, but I don't feel like I have a reason to care about the other characters besides the fact that Natsuki cares. Like he cares so much about other people that it makes him more compelling, but I don't really have a reason to care about Emilia who's entire purpose is being the MC's motivation. The twins actually have a story going on, but it's taking an entire 8 episodes to develop when I feel like the main premise still hasn't been acknowledged? Like why does this dude not care that he's been isekai'd. I mean I don't even know if these are valid complaints because I think enough hints have been dropped that the writer has a strong idea about where he's going, I just would have liked something stronger to grab onto in the meantime I guess. Production values doing hella work right now. --- |

That would drive me insane Yeah, but honestly it rarely happens after the beginning of the game, even in the NES version. It's really not a problem unless you plan to min max everything, and then it's still avoidable by just rotating your stat upgrades. And yeah for FF1 I highly recommend Origins, though it's possible the steam version is actually restoring some of the original elements of the game. (and the bonus content for ff1 sucks imo) --- |
