The Arthur premiere made headlines on Tuesday, and most of the attention focused on its positive, normalizing portrayal of same-sex marriage.

Portrayals of LGBTQ characters and same-sex relationships havent always been so welcome on TV programs for kids. But the 2019 Arthur premiere marks a poignant moment in childrens TV history: In an episode where a male teacher gets married to another man, the behavior that the other characters consider most worrisome is his dorky dancing, and the apparent moral of the episode is that kids neednt meddle in the affairs of the adults in their lives, because the adults have it under control. That Mr. Ratburn is marrying a person (an aardvark?) of the same sex feels, for all intents and purposes, unremarkable. It attracts no quizzical glances from the other characters, nor is it used as an opportunity for a proverbial Very Special Episode that teaches viewers about same-sex relationships.

Kind of crazy how so much has changed. This would have been taboo 10 years ago.

Cal Polys Academic Senate has voted to remove a Chick-fil-A restaurant from its campus in San Luis Obispo, the chains only location in the county.

KCBX reports: The resolution was proposed in light of recent news the fast food chains charity arm, the Chick-fil-A Foundation, continues to give money to anti-LGBTQ organizations. The vote by the Academic Senate comes after another university and two cities moved to block Chick-fil-A outlets from opening in recent weeks due to the companys perceived opposition to the LGBTQ community.

So far two major airports have banned it. And so did a college in New Jersey. And now this. Wouldn't surprise me if more and more places continue to ban it.

Anti-gay pastor Steven Anderson has been banned from entering Ireland under an immigration act passed in 1999 that has never before been used.

The BBC reports: His website claimed that he was due to preach in Dublin on 26 May. However, an online petition calling for Mr Anderson to be banned from Ireland was created in response, and gained 14,000 signatures.

Anderson celebrated following the massacre at Orlandos Pulse nightclub, saying there were 50 less pedophiles in the world. Anderson has compared gay people to ax murderers and Hitler. And he has said gays should be killed because theyre [redacted] who snatch and rape children. Anderson also once prayed for the death of Barack Obama.

Anderson was banned from The Netherlands last week. He has also been banned from Jamaica, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Botswana and Canada.
