Israel has a great vaccination rate. Unvaccinated people are driving the delta variant infection rate, but they are also infecting a number of vaccinated people. Shutdowns will be necessary in Israel despite the fact that they have a high vaccination rate.

This will happen in the US as well, but the troglodytes won't allow for another shutdown. We're fucked.

So as said I think Duo and Memrise are great for beginners, though I wouldn't pay for them. But basically you just want to start engaging with real content as soon as possible. Listen to lots of music, watch youtube videos (what language are you learning?), tv and movies as soon as possible (subs in English are fine to start, but try to move to L2 audio and L2 subs when possible). Don't try to engage with content too far outside your current level, but aim for stuff where you can get the gist of most of it and figure out most of the rest through context. Assimil is a good tool, if they have your L2. It incorporates reading, listening, and writing. Anki is also great for spaced repetition flashcards. Making your own deck is ideal, but ain't nobody got time for that. Really, just engage with as much content as possible across as many mediums as possible, but reading is probably the #1 thing if you can do it.

The silver lining of the pandemic is the fact that is caused people to wake up and understand that the old M/F 9-5 in person office presence is completely outdated and unnecessary.

The only ones demanding employees return to office are the ones who sign the leases for massive megabuildings downtown and are upset that they're all empty.

Time to move on. Remote work should have been the way of the future for years now and the pandemic just proved it.

I live closer to Canada than I do to Mexico and there are not many Spanish speakers in my state. I will not have a chance to practice any of the other languages I listed.

It's interesting how one of the two Congresswomen is popular for her policy positions and the other one is popular for just constantly calling the first one bad names. I think that kinda tells you all you need to know about the state of the political parties they each represent.

@nexigrams you are correct. It also says a lot about the country. Hillary ran on clean energy, weaning us off coal, diversity, inclusion, rising wages, investing on science, etc etc etc. Trump ran on mexican man bad and chinese man bad. Trump became an icon and cult leader just with that.

Biden won only because an unprecedented number of people were able to vote because of COVID (which led to no excuse mail in ballots, ballot drop boxes, etc etc) and the general discontent that a giant manchild telling us that masks are bad made covid so much worse here. But come 2024 there is no guarantee he won't win AGAIN running once again on mexican man bad and chinese man bad, despite all the damage he did over 4 years. That says so much about the country, doesn't it? It makes me depressed.

I'm tired of being monolingual. My choice would be japanese but it would probably be much harder since they use a different writing system. What would the most useful pick be? Like for resume and stuff like that.
