junk_funk 07/22/17 5:01:31 PM #1 | Welcome to Most Excellent Fictional Character contest, where Board 8 decides the best overall fictional character ever created. Characters from every medium, far and wide are in this contest. To see the results, please visit this link: https://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/8-gamefaqs-contests/75350067#15 I get some flack about throwing a Save My round in this contest every year, but Board 8 loves Save Mys historically and it is a wonderful way to shake things up. Previously strong characters are no longer completely safe in this format as everyone must now fight to survive. Fifth Round Rules - You can save 2 characters an hour - A character needs 4 saves to be safe, users may only save a character once - The final 2 characters remaining are eliminated - If X then Y saves are not allowed - Trading is allowed - No alts - No editing or deleting posts with saves in them. - New rounds can only be posted by junk_funk - The Save My round will continue once per day between 4PM and 6PM ET with slightly altered rules each round until 16 characters remain. We will be eliminating 8 characters through Save My format. The Most Excellent 24 Characters (0) Ariel (Little Mermaid) - (0) Batman (DC Comics) - (0) Belle (Beauty and the Beast) - (0) Bowser (Mario) - (0) Chewbacca (Star Wars) - (0) Darth Vader (Star Wars) - (0) Edgar Figaro (Final Fantasy VI) - (0) Gandalf (Lord of the Rings) - (0) Han Solo (Star Wars) - (0) Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) - (0) Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones) - (0) Jaime Lannister (Game of Thrones) - (0) James Bond (James Bond) - (0) Jesse Custer (Preacher) - (0) Link (Zelda) - (0) Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) - (0) Mario (Mario) - (0) Obi Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) - (0) Professor Snape (Harry Potter) - (0) Scar (Lion King) - (0) Snoopy (Peanuts) - (0) Spiderman (Marvel Comics) - (0) Winnie the Pooh (Winnie the Pooh) - (0) Yoshi (Mario) - Saves Away! --- The good thing about science is that its true whether or not you believe in it. |

junk_funk 07/22/17 4:36:53 PM #309 | Couple last things of note that I always like to point out... - Hermione, Ariel, and Belle are the three strongest, and only remaining, female fictional characters! - Star Wars has a total of 5 characters left! (Chewy, Luke, Vader, Obi, Solo) - Mario has 3 characters left! (Mario, Yoshi, Bowser) - ...but there are 5 video game characters left (with Link and Edgar) (Edgar is the only non-Nintendo character left) - Harry Potter is the only other multi character series with 2 left. (Hermione and Snape) - There are 3 superheroes left. (Spiderman, Batman, Custer) - There are only three villains left (Vader, Scar, Bowser) - Not including Star Wars or Marvel there are 4 Disney characters left (Winnie, Scar, Ariel, Belle) - 13 of the 24 characters are primarily drawn or animated. Eleven are live action or book based. - 18 of the 24 characters appear human while only 6 are animals or other creatures. In the Top 24 There Are... 3 Jedi/Sith 3 wizards 3 superheroes 2 space pirates 2 reptile like creatures 2 princesses 1 lion 1 bear 1 dog 1 knight 1 master engineer 1 special agent 1 plumber 1 silent protagonist 1 archaeologist --- The good thing about science is that its true whether or not you believe in it. |

junk_funk 07/22/17 4:17:34 PM #308 | ...And I thought this was cool, just to see how big of a favorite some characters are or how much of a longshot. I made a formula for characters previous finishes and calculated how well each has been doing compared to the other. This is the overall standings so far based on all other rounds... 1st. Darth Vader (Star Wars) - 40 points 1st. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter) - 40 points ------ 3rd. Han Solo (Star Wars) - 31 points 4th. Bowser (Mario) - 28 points 4th. Yoshi (Mario) - 28 points ------ 6th. Chewbacca (Star Wars) - 24 points 7th. Luke Skywalker (Star Wars) - 23 points 7th. Spiderman (Marvel Comics) - 23 points 9th. Scar (Lion King) - 21 points 9th. Snoopy (Peanuts) - 21 points 11th. Batman (DC Comics) - 20 points ------ 12th. Professor Snape (Harry Potter) - 18 points 13th. James Bond (James Bond) - 17 points 14th. Mario (Mario) - 16 points 14th. Obi Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) - 16 points 16th. Indiana Jones (Indiana Jones) - 14 points 16th. Jaime Lannister (Game of Thrones)- 14 points ------ 18th. Jesse Custer (Preacher) - 12 points 18th. Belle (Beauty and the Beast) - 12 points 18th. Edgar Figaro (Final Fantasy VI) - 12 points 21st. Gandalf (Lord of the Rings) - 11 points 21st. Ariel (Little Mermaid) - 11 points 21st. Winnie the Pooh (Winnie the Pooh) - 11 points 21st. Link (Zelda) - 11 points As you can see, Vader and Hermione are very clear favorites. Having them lose before the Top 10 would be extremely surprising, but not at all impossible. Solo, Bowser, and Yoshi have all shown the same amount of strength and are clear second tier characters to win it all (which honestly makes them the true favorites). The next tier down belongs to Chewy, Luke, Spiderman, Scar, Snoopy, and Batman. If any of those guys won it all at this point we couldn't consider it much of an upset. However, if the next tier down wins (Snape, Bond, Mario, Obi, Indiana, and Jaime) we have an official upset winner on our hands. And finally, the last seven characters on the list are all about equal strength to each other and all are likely just coming along for the ride at this point. Anything inside the Top 10 will be wonderful for them. --- The good thing about science is that its true whether or not you believe in it. |

junk_funk 07/22/17 3:33:24 PM #307 | Next round will start at 5PM ET about right on the dot. It will be a Save My format. The round will not last 24 hours, but rather until there only two characters left to save, and thus are eliminated. Please be ready for the round if you plan to participate! Save trading will be allowed, but no alts. It will take 44 save posts to complete the round so this one will go quickly by Save My terms (I'm guessing 3ish hours). Expect one Save My round to go up once a day between 4-6PM ET. --- The good thing about science is that its true whether or not you believe in it. |

Almost every mid-carder made it through, which was surprising. Only one who did not? Aragorn. Half the low-cards are ousted and almost every wildcard form last round got cut. On the other side of the fence, Darth takes his 3rd 1st place finish. He is a heavy favorite to win, but Board 8 hates heavy favorites as past contests have shown (Magneto and Tyrion winning were surprising at the time). Han Solo stays in the top, we might have a Han versus Vader final if this keeps up. Hermione gets another 3rd place and Bowser (a two time Top 10er) get another 4th place. Scar (another previous Top 10er) rounds out 5th tying Yoshi. Luke, Chewy, and Obi keep Star Wars representation very stable. Jesse Custer and Edgar Figaro are now the tournament's biggest underdogs. But Link and Ariel are the only two characters remaining with two Wildcard wins. Belle, Winnie, Gandalf, and Indiana have yet to finish in the top of any Round in any format, yet they make the Top 24. Who finished 25th? Iron Man! Officially having the highest score of the Wildcard contenders. --- The good thing about science is that its true whether or not you believe in it. |

junk_funk 07/22/17 3:00:51 PM #302 | Round 4 Wildcard Results Group 1 Wildcard Contestants 54 Ariel (Little Mermaid) WC, low, low, top10 51 Obi Wan Kenobi (Star Wars) mid, mid, 4th, low 48 Jaime Lannister (Game of Thrones) mid, top, mid, mid ------ 47 Captain Hook (Peter Pan) top, mid, top20, WC 47 Aragorn (Lord of the Rings) mid, WC, WC, mid 47 Bugs Bunny (Looney Tunes) mid, low, mid, WC Poke's last second vote ensure the narrowest of victories for Jaime Lannister. Ariel completes her second wildcard appearance in fashion while Obi Wan fills out the winners. This group was within 5 points (first to last) of each other all day long. Hook and Bugs come just short of a second Wildcard win in a row while Aragorn fails to win his third Wildcard and finally is booted from the competition. Group 2 Wildcard Contestants 53 Winnie the Pooh (Winnie the Pooh) mid, mid, low, low 51 Link (Zelda) top, low, mid, WC 49 Edgar Figaro (Final Fantasy VI) top20, low, WC, mid (three +6's) ------ 49 Iron Man (Marvel Comics) mid, mid, low, WC (one +6) 48 Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek) top20, top20, mid, 2nd 44 Arya Stark (Game of Thrones) low, mid, mid, low I thought it couldn't get any closer than it did in the last group, but this group saw a tie breaker right on the cut line. Edgar pulls right on through and into Round 5 with three +6's to one. Unfortunately, that means Iron Man is gone. Picard completes his collapse after finishing second last round and in the Top 20 most of the contest. Arya has been a basement dweller for a while, she is now out, leaving just Jaime from GoT. Link and Winnie enjoyed a decent lead most of the day over the rest of the group. They are deceivingly strong. --- The good thing about science is that its true whether or not you believe in it. |
